Youth Safety

Youth safety is important to us. The internet offers amazing opportunites for youth today to share their ideas and art, but is also full of opportunists looking to take advantage of unsuspecting users. Our curriculum includes teaching youth how to protect themselves online as they share and communicate, helping them turn into savy and safe internet users. In compliance with federal law we restrict what information about minors is published online and in print through our programs, and require parental permission for projects created in the programs to be put on the virtual teen center. We identify participants only by their first names, do not make addresses or phone numbers available, and do not allow online chatting. The virtual teen center does allow any youth to upload multimedia projects, however all uploads are screened before being posted to assure a safe surfing environment. While in our programs participants will be under the supervision of our dedicated and trained staff. All Tincan employees working with minors are required to pass a background check. We appreciate the chance to work with youth and share with them our knowledge of technology and our passion to make a difference in our community.
