QUEER HISTORY PROJECT
Today and Yesterday: A Century of LGBT Faces in the Inland Northwest
About the Project
Today and Yesterday: A Century of LGBT faces in the Inland Northwest (or QHP - Queer History Project, for short) was born out of an idea to showcase LGBT elders in our community at the Odyssey Youth Center. Thanks to the hard work of Maureen Nickerson, Katya Madden and Nat Wall and an outpouring of community interest it grew into the larger project that it is today. Volunteers and students are collecting the oral histories of the LGBT population of the Inland Northwest, as well as pictures, newspaper articles and other pieces of history. Once collected these histories will be archived with the help of the Joel E. Ferris Research Library and the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture and some placed online through the Inland Northwest Memories Project.
Get Involved
The QHP would love your help in collecting and preserving this portion of our local history!
We are looking for elders willing to be interviewed about their experiences here in the Inland Northwest. We are also looking for pictures and stories of LGBTIQ people from the early half of the 20th century in and around Spokane, including any rural members of the community. Help us to give our youth the gift of their past.
Volunteers or Students interested in an internship with the project can apply through Tincan. Click here to download the internship information.
